TANZANIA ASSEMBLIES OF GOD –DEPERTMENT OF EDUCATION

P.O.BOX 8427 DAR ES SALAAM

The idea to start the department of education came towards the end of 1980. The executive committee of T.A.G. which included Rev Emanuel Lazaro (who was the arch bishop), Rev Enos Kameta (assistant arch bishop), and Rev Solomon Mwagisa (general secretary) proposed to have such institution to supervise the education system of the Tanzania Assemblies of God Church. Upon their decision Rev. Nicodemus Mwaisabila was appointed to be the first director of education at the end of 1980. He served the appointed post for a short time then Rev Christian Kiwia was appointed in his position. Rev. Kiwia being one of the national evangelists could not hold the post for a long time, therefore the executive committee appointed Rev Ranwell Mwenisongole to be the national education director.  It was at this time that the department captured the vission and got momentum to move forward. Rev. Mwenisongole led the department till 1992 when he was appointed for the first time to be the General Superintendent of the Tanzania Assemblies of God.

Bishop Mwenisongole together with his committee members appointed Rev. Oral  Sossy to lead the  department . He could not stay long in the title because his burden was in missions than this department. Therefore the leadership wisely transferred him to the mission department and his position was given to Rev Jotham Mwakimage. Special appreciations be to missionaries, Mike McClaffin, and Ron Hansen for their contribution which helped the establishment of this department to be possible. We thank God that during the leadership of Rev. Jotham Mwakimage much has been accomplished. He led the department up to 2008. During the transition period the arch bishop Rev. Dr Barnabas Mtokambali became the director of education some months before the appointment of Rev Oral Sossy once again to the post in January 2009. Rev Oral Sossy stayed in position up to December 2009. From January 2010 to date the department of education is under Rev. Jonas Mkoba as the national director, Rev. Oral Sossy as the assistant director and Rev. Joel Hamuli as the general secretary.

The department at her inception in 1980 had three Bible colleges, that is Mbeya Bible College which started in 1954, Arusha Bible College which started in 1957, and Dodoma Bible College which started in 1980. Now the department runs six main Bible Colleges and twenty Church Planting Centres across  the country. The three other main Bible Colleges are Mwanza Bible College which began in 2001, GLOBAL Harvest which is located at Dar es Salaam which started in 2008, and Mtama Bible College which is located at Mtama village in Lindi Region which began in 2010. Our Church Planting Centres are found in each of the 20 former TAG districts in Tanzania main land. The twenty first Church Planting Centre is expected to be inaugurated at Kiboje Zanzibar early 2011.
